I believe that education is perhaps the most important function
performed in our culture, or for that matter, any culture.
Teaching is a mission that has its rewards and challenges and
educators are in a unique position to teach students how to deal with
their course work, but obstacles and life in general.
I believe that teachers individually and collectively can not only
change the world, but also improve it, and in the process find
personal and professional reward. Teachers provide the opportunity to
make an impact in the lives of the students as success of the students
is determined not by what happens to them, but by how they handle that
which happens to them.
A good education is not one-size fits all pedagogy as should be
flexible and creative to meet the needs of the student. A good
education should not be solely lecture based but use a variety of
instructional technologies, presentation software, smart classroom,
online and distance learning to transform learning and educational
process making learning accessible and accommodating to students with
different learning styles.
A good education should entail instructors using hands-on to assist
students understand concepts, solve problems and develop critical
thought. A good education will encourage collaboration in problem
solving, as this will prepare students for success in real-world
situations involving group projects allowing them to adapt to
team-based problem solving.
A good education should involve teachers acting as facilitators or
coaches, using classroom presentations, individual instruction or
hands-on-training to help students learn and apply concepts.
The US is falling behind the rest of the world in every major
educational category and to reverse this we must fix our educational
system. Everyone must be able to get a good education regardless of
their zipcode etc and the US will continue to lose its edge
competitively.
We can't wait on superman to save education, parents, students,
teachers, politicians, and you have to step up.
Q: If you're a person who doesn't have children, how does this issue affect you?
A: We are all one country, so we're all connected. If millions and
millions of Americans are denied access to the quality education that
you need to live a happy healthy life, we will all feel the
consequences in small and big ways. Education levels are great
indicators of a person's overall health and success. Those with higher
levels of education are more likely to vote, are more likely to
volunteer and be engaged in their community, are more likely to
exercise, and are less likely to smoke or commit crimes. To say it's
not your problem is just not true. As an American, it's a problem that
affects us all. (reference:
